Goals and objectives
・Learn ecology to find some hints and inspiration for each research activity and planning & design method of graduate school.
・Understand ecological-way-of-thinking to insight site, to clarify its history, and to acquire imagining the land in the future.
・Rearrange your plan & design, using site-specific relationship between space-time - in Spatio-Temporal Scale.

■1 Relationship between Land and Plants
1. Individual - Population - Community, Association
 Preparation (Prep.) Check difference between plant community and plantation, and decide "your" plant community.
2. Shape of Plants and Space which Plants Occupy
 Prep. Select a tree species to check its form and the principle of the form
3. How to Be A Member of Plant Community?
 Prep. Survey relationship between plant species in the plant community and the site which survive.
4. Environmental Gradient
 Prep. Look up the word "environmental gradient" and find some samples in dairy life.
5. How to Understand the Formation and Structure of Plant Community
 Prep. Prepare vegetation survey data.

■2 Ecological Succession - Change of Relationship of Plants and Land
6.  Shifting Wood - Ecological Succession
 Prep. Read " Who made the forest? " And comprehend ecological succession.
7. A New Vision of Scenery after Understanding Ecological Succession
 Prep. Find one sample of ecological succession in daily life
8. Creation of Urban Woodlands according to Ecological Succession and Vegegtation Management
 Prep. Check how the Meiji Shrine wood was created in relation to ecological succession
9. Shinichi NAKAZAWA “Earth Diver”
 Prep. Check "marine transgression" in Jomon Period

Evaluation
Comments for every class: 60 points (5-10 points / each)
Reports: 40 points (2times, 20 points / each)
Pass mark: 60 points. If you absent more than 4 times, you will be rejected.
