This course introduces the classification and performance of materials, members, joints, shear walls and horizontal frames, which are the structural elements of timber structures. Participants are expected to understand the characteristics of timber structures, and the basic concept of structural design method considering the characteristics.
Prerequisites
Members of the class need to have the interest widely about timber structures. It isn't so necessary to have an expert knowledge about building structure (calculation, analysis, and so on).
It is preferred, but not required, that the students have mastered the "Timber Structure" of the undergraduate course. Method Using AL・ICT
Presentation
Class schedule
1. Learning the history of timber-based materials and structures
2. Learning the test and evaluation method of timber based-materials, joints and members 3. Learning the material strength of timber based-materials 4. Learning the history of the building standard of shear wall ratio 5. Learning the basis of the building standard of shear wall arrangement 6. Learning the evaluation method of in-plane performance of shear wall 7. Learning the basic concept of the design of column joints 8. Learning the evaluation method of structural performance of timber connection by EYT fastener 9. Learning possibility of the CLT 10. Learning possibility of middle rise timber buildings 11. Learning the technology about durability and fireproof property 12. Learning current structural calculation method 13. Learning damage by earthquake 14. Learning the relationship timber structure and forest 15. Review on what students learned Evaluation
Grading will be decided based on reports (probably twice) and short tests. The required level is to be able to make developed consideration after understanding the explanation in this course about the design of timber structures.
Feedback for students
Explanations will be given for each short test the following week. Students make presentations on one of the reports during class and the teacher comments on them.
