具体的な到達目標

Students should achieve a level of "survival skills English," which will allow them to communicate with their homestay families and the local people to perform "everyday" tasks.

Approval by Department.

授業の方法とねらい

This course prepares students for participation in the Hybrid English Program by instructing them how to function in English cultural systems and by building their basic English language skills. The methodology is a combination of lecture and workshop, with an emphasis on student practice to reinforce language patterns.

Students will choose a place in England they would like to visit and conduct research on that location. They will then write a paper, in English, explaining about the place and why they want to visit it.

Continue reviewing notebook, listening to English, practicing with classmates, and building vocabulary in preparation for going to Canterbury.

Grades will be based on students' oral and aural performances, participation, and short writing assignments.

教科書

No textbook is required; however, a ruled notebook (about 19cm x 24cm) is required. A small notebook (for example, a Moleskine 9cm x 14cm) is strongly suggested.

No reference books are required.

受講生へのメッセージ

We will be generating our own textbook as the class progresses, so there is no required textbook. Each student is required to have a ruled notebook (about 19cm x 24cm). After each class, students should review their notes to embed the language patterns and vocabulary upon which we are focusing. Moreover, each class, students will be assigned thought exercises that will develop their English language skills and prepare them to function in non-Japanese discursive formations.
