Goals and objectives
In this design studio, students will engage with a single project throughout the semester, exploring architectural thinking through approaches that differ from conventional spatial composition derived from function or program. For example, architecture may be conceived as a sculptural volume inserted into an urban context, or space may be generated from perceptual phenomena such as light through the making of large-scale models. The aim is to acquire new methodologies that expand one’s existing design process.

The course objectives are as follows:
1. To cultivate the ability to transform the media used to communicate one’s design—rather than treating them as merely explanatory drawings—into autonomous works that possess their own aesthetic integrity.
2. To develop an iterative process of evaluating and refining spatial quality through multifaceted investigations, including urban perspectives and human scale.
3. To develop the ability to integrate the trial-and-error process of the completed work into one’s own design methodology and carry it forward into future creative practice.

Class schedule
1.Project Launch and Briefing
2.Site Research and Fieldwork
3.Design Studio / Desk Critiques
4.Midterm Presentation
5.Design Studio / Desk Critiques
6.Final Review

Notes:
Detailed scheduling for each session will be announced at the time of the project launch.
A lecture by the guest lecturer is planned during the course. The date is to be announced.

Evaluation
Students will be evaluated comprehensively based on their assignments and oral presentations. A passing grade requires an average score of 60 or higher across the two assignments. Please note that without a midterm submission, the final assignment will not be accepted.
Feedback for students
Individual feedback will be given orally upon submission of the assignment.

Textbooks
None
Reference materials
Reference books will be recommended in class as needed.

Office hours and How to contact teachers for questions
For approximately 30 minutes after each class.
Message for students
Design is an iterative process where real discovery happens through physical modeling, spatial studies, and constant refinement. Active participation in discussions and openness to feedback are essential for your growth. I look forward to deepening our architectural thinking together throughout this course.
