Almost all organic compounds contained in living organisms have some role in carrying out life activities. Some of them show peculiar effects in extremely small amounts in development, differentiation, growth, reproduction, and homeostasis. These are collectively called bioactive substances. In this lecture, we will learn about the history, chemical structure, biosynthesis, mechanism of action, and application of various bioactive substances discovered from nature. In particular, we will explain historically important bioactive substances and bioactive substances discovered in the latest research, along with specific research cases. Through this lecture, I aim to lecture how to understand the molecules that govern life phenomena from the perspectives of organic chemistry and life science.
