B) The skills to use science and technology 0% C) The ability to conduct research independently, knowledge pertaining to society and occupations, and sense of ethics required of engineers and researchers 0% D) Creative skills in specific areas of specialization 0% Goals and objectives
There are an utilized technique and a prevention technique of an electrical discharge but a dielectric and an insulator produce occasionally the discharge. The former is used for devices of a corona discharge and the latter is used for the high voltage equipment. The purpose of this lecture is noted below.
1. The understanding of electrical discharges generated in various conditions 2. The understanding of a practical use and a principle of devices of a corona discharge. The learning of many practical uses for everyday life and the leading-edge industry. 3. The understanding of high voltage technologies (the production and measurement, the structure and characteristic of the equipment). Prerequisites
The leaning of a basic high votage engineering is required.

Class schedule
1. Electrical discharge in air (2)
Electrical discharge phenomenon and breakdown theory in gaseous dielectric of air, SF6, vacuum, and high air pressure, etc. 2. Electrical discharge in liquid (1) Electrical discharge and breakdown theory in liquid dielectric in unmixed pure liquid, practical liquid, low temperature liquid, etc. 3. Electrical discharge in solid (1) Electrical discharge phenomenon and breakdown theory of inorganic dielectric and plastic dielectric 4. Electrical discharge in composite dielectric (2) Electrical discharge in composite dielectric and points for practical apparatus 5. Electrical discharge applied apparatus (3) Practical use and principle applied to light source, electric charge source, heat source, semiconductor industry, etc. 6. High voltage generation and measurement (3) High voltage generation method of AC, DC, impulse voltage, measurement method of high voltage and high current, response characteristics, noise problem 7. High voltage apparatus (2) Structure and high voltage characteristics of transformer, cable, lightning arrester (SPD: surge protective device), and circuit breaker, etc. used for power transmission The parentheses imply the time allotment. Evaluation
The result will be performed by a research report. The score of more than 60 points is needed.
